Hi, I’m Jamie, the Founder and Principal Designer of the Haus of Artemis Design Studio. My office is based in the Southeastern suburbs of Melbourne. I am a former Dental Surgeon who discovered my love for interior design after flipping houses with my partner. In my career as a Dentist, I learnt aesthetics, intricate hand work and functionality. I bring this experience into my design language. There is something quite remarkable about handcrafted objects or materials that are purposeful and can be passed on from generation to generation.
My favourite part of design is sustainability, creating focal points , lighting design and colour theory. I gravitate towards a Modernist style with high contrast colour accents, Passive Haus Movement and Mid-century style with concrete, stone and timber joinery or fixtures. I love a more minimal approach to design and believe that finding a few hero pieces like a big art piece or sculptural furniture are plenty to bring visual interest to a room.
The designers and artists that have influenced me the most are Bauhaus school of design, Ray and Charles Eames, Frank Lloyd Wright, Isamu Noguchi and Jean Paul Basquiat.
My dream is to do commercial design like restaurants and cafes. Starting my own product line made with sustainable materials would be wonderful as well.
I would define my work as clean, clutter free, ambient and in tune with the outdoors. I use a lot of plants, pops of colour, thrifted art pieces, books, quirky sculptures, lamps and rugs as a part of my design. My aim is to create a timeless and balanced space that matches the personality of my client.
