Khamille Joy Tyler

With over 20 years of experience working with clients in the residential, corporate, and restaurant/hospitality industries, Khamille Tyler brings a wealth of knowledge and a refined, practical outlook to every project she undertakes. Her expertise spans from conceptual design to execution, ensuring that each space she designs is both functional and visually compelling.

A graduate of the Art Institute with a bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Khamille is a methodical and innovative designer who blends creativity with structured problem-solving. Known among her peers as the "CAD operator," she has a deep passion for drafting and excels in technical design aspects, including furniture space planning, interior architecture, and 3D visualization. Her keen eye for spatial relationships allows her to create harmonious environments that balance aesthetics and efficiency.

Khamille draws inspiration from some of the most influential design movements in history, particularly Art Deco, De Stijl, and Mid-Century Modern. She appreciates the bold geometric patterns and luxurious materials of Art Deco, the minimalist yet dynamic compositions of De Stijl, and the timeless elegance and functionality of Mid-Century Modern. These influences shape her design approach, allowing her to craft spaces that are both sophisticated and enduring.

What inspired you to become an interior design tutor?

Interior Design was a natural skill and a passionate hobby.

What are some essential skills or qualities that every interior designer should possess?

Understand scale and proportion, color, budgets, and schedules, and they should be able to listen to and translate thoughts and ideas. Time management is everything!!

What are some favorite projects you have worked on?

A yogurt shop, a casual dining restaurant, and a high-end restaurant in Los Angeles.

Function follows form. Practical designs make a house efficient, and beautiful designs make that house a home.

Space planning (hand drafting and CAD) and understanding fixtures and finishes.

How would you describe your design style and where do you draw inspiration from?

Vintage/Retro and Mid-Century Modern. I am a huge film and television fan and was always drawn to the stage and set design. My love for classic rock and RnB music are also heavy influences on my design process.

What is your favorite part about being a tutor?

Helping others obtain their dreams.

What advice would you give to new students?

Enjoy the learning process and stay inspired. Be kind and patient and give yourself some grace as you learn new skills that may be unexpected or foreign to you because this is a great investment for your future self!
