With my long passion for fashion and interior design, and obsession to always having a well organised and functional home, I eventually decided to take the interior design course and start a career in this industry. At first, it was scary but once I got started, it was so worth it.

Working with The Interior Design Institute has broadened my experience with interior design and decorating. Creating these modules and seeing your thoughts and ideas come to life, is only the beginning of what’s going to happen.
The platform of use with this online study was not a big decision, I opened up the website and immediately knew that I wanted to study here. The freedom of working in your own time and with the help of the online tutor (which is amazing) gives you the choice of when and where to do it.
Picking the fruit at the end of your course and seeing that you finished module 12 and that you received a diploma is the best feeling that you could ever have. Knowing that I wanted to do interior design was a long time decision, but I did not know where to go or where to get information until I discovered The Interior Design Institute!

Prior to Covid, I had one of the best jobs in the world, being a flight attendant for 24 years.
Every country I visited, I was in awe of making a change. I loved hotel rooms, architecture, homes. On every trip, I would log onto the IDI website and feel the need to subscribe as my passion was there... interiors. Well, I did, and I can attest that it was worth every penny. I completed The Diploma and the Master Series with Darren Palmer.
Life works in mysterious ways! Never doubt yourself. Do it, and don't look back. It was an incredible journey with amazing support, and I look forward to an advanced module and a brighter future.

This course has helped me a lot! I started this course with the love and passion for decorating spaces only with no clue of designing, not knowing the importance of interior design elements and principles, the use of colours and style design. But after completing this course, I can complete floor plans, design kitchens, and play around with different colours and fabrics with confidence! Taking this course started out as an experiment for me, and it ended up being such a great idea.
I had already dipped my toes in the industry waters, completing a few smaller projects and my own home renovation. I had some sense of how to tweak a space but no guidelines on how to be a professional in the industry. All I had was some ideas but no framework for executing them.
The course grew my knowledge of interior design and helped to highlight some blind spots in my existing practice, and it gave me the appropriate skills and language to support my approach and ideas.
It was so manageable to do this course while working. I worked part-time, and when projects got intense, I'd take a break from the course, picking up where I left off as soon as work quietened down. It took me less than 12 months to complete it.
I now look forward to polishing my skills with the advanced modules and getting more experience in the field.

These are the thoughts going through my head a year ago as I pushed the button to commit to undertaking an Interior Design Diploma from The Interior Design Institute.
After a lot of hard work and time spent, a year down the line, but lots of enjoyment too, I have Graduated! I am so proud of myself for achieving this goal that I set myself. The journey has been amazing, and I would highly recommend this course to anyone considering a diploma in interior design. The support received from my tutor, the Institute, and the Facebook community has been wonderful.

I have matriculated two years ago and did not have the chance to go and study at a university as all my friends did. I instead had to search for a job (not really knowing what I want to become), I applied to so many different job offers, trusting that whoever replies to my emails will help me to find my field of work. I got a call at an interior designing company, went for the interview and got the job.
I Shortly after started my IDI course, which taught me so many things that I never knew was even part of interior designing. I (a person with NO prior interior design knowledge) started to work through my modules thoroughly and started focusing on every detail of my assignments. I have since received a raise and my boss asked me to not leave for at least three years, and help her to build this company. Any person who just gives their all to the modules and assignments, will flourish and become more than they ever could have expected.

I would highly recommend this course to anyone wanting to pursue interior design as a career or with a passion for interior design. The fact that one is able to read through the modules at your own pace and not have a specific start date was a huge factor for me having a full-time job.
After making the decision to choose The Interior Design Institute as my platform to achieve my Diploma in Interior Design and follow my passion - I have not once second-guessed myself and am confident that I made the right choice.The modules are full of very informative content, with visually pleasing images. The feedback that one receives from your personal tutor is invaluable, constructive and encouraging. This alone has made me decide this isn't where my journey ends, I have made the decision to tackle the advanced modules too.
It has been an amazing journey to have done this course. I absolutely loved the course. Was wonderful to play with my creative side, and get a taste of an area which I have always had an interest in.
In my case, because I worked at odd hours doing the course to fit it in - I tried doing it all myself which makes it a little harder, but still so much fun! Stay in contact with your tutor and other students via the various platforms - it will certainly make life much easier....and remember: There is no such thing as a stupid question.

Taking on this course coincided with being at a complete career crossroads. I was working as a project assistant for a logistics company, but I knew that I wanted to be an interior designer. Over the past few months, I have been motivated to carry on, encouraged by my tutor and the nature of the course. My tutor was genuinely interested in helping me succeed and would give good advice on all my design projects.
The course has been brilliant and has made the concept of a web-based course very enjoyable.

I have learned a lot from basic colour schemes; to space planning, electrical layouts, furniture placement and finishes.
The one-perspective drawing technique has been one of the most challenging aspects of this course and will learn a lot by practising even more.

The Diploma of Interior Design course is invaluable and taught me everything I needed to know in order to become a professional interior designer. The modules are in consecutive order and this made it feel like a real-life design project. The last three modules in this course are also very important as they gave me the information on how to start my career.
My tutor was excellent and provided me with everything I needed to know and gave me tips for future use. My assignments were marked very quickly and a comment was provided on every one of them. The fact that this course was provided online also made it a lot easier for me. I was able to do all my assignments at home, in my own time and without any hassle.

I have always dreamed to be an interior designer since I was a little girl. The Interior Design Institute has helped me pursue my dream. Not only have I learned how to design, but I have also learned about the history of design and art, as well as the in's and out's of interior design, in the comfort of my own home!

Although I worked in the retail industry for many years and more recently in the interior design field as a sales consultant, I felt like I needed to challenge myself and up my game. Interior design and decor has always been a passion of mine. I was encouraged by my colleagues who have graduated from IDI.
I was sceptical at first as online learning wasn't something I was willing to take on especially at my age, but with lots of encouragements from the people closest to me, I was now determined to take the plunge. I loved it from the first module to the last and managed to complete it in 9 months and I had lots of fun doing it.

One never really knows what you are getting into when you take on an online course. You do your research but remain apprehensive. The legitimacy and bona-fides of the organisation were among my initial fears and money could also be lost. But once I started, all my fears were put to rest.
Each module was very interesting and I couldn’t wait to complete the assignments. I suddenly had a kick in my step and knew I was heading in the right direction. Every module got better and better and I was surprisingly able to produce work that I never knew I was capable of.
With today’s rough and tumble lifestyle, this course saves you money and time in terms of no traffic and no huge fuel bills. More importantly, you are able to work flexi-time. I started working as an interior designer before completing this course but felt I needed a qualification to do my work with confidence and for clients to take me seriously as a designer.
The course was really helpful in guiding me on decision making with regards to the business side, and working with clients, and helped me to think even more creatively and refine my work. My tutor Talin Leask and student support bent over backwards to help me. They were amazing.
Just before finishing this course I completed a very successful design for a corporate client that I only could have done with the knowledge I have gained from this course and have already received more requests for work because of that project.

Studying with The Interior Design Institute has been a great learning experience and not your normal online course where you put everything in and get nothing out. The composition of the modules and assignments are excellent and it tests the students’ knowledge comprehensively. You can apply the knowledge that you get from this course into everyday life as well.
My tutor was a great mentor. Her constructive criticism and helpful hints were positive and uplifting. She was a great support system and she gives you tips on how to incorporate what you’ve learned into the real world and how to deal with clients.

I hold strongly to the conviction that life is too short to spend working hours doing something you don't really love doing. It was Confucius who said..."Choose a job that you love and you will never have to work a day in your life". This has become my own personal goal and I feel well on my way to accomplishing it. A year ago I was getting frustrated and bored with work and decided to make a radical move by leaving my job in order to move towards a more creative field, hence, Interior Design.
I have always loved anything to do with homes, furniture and well thought out, beautiful living and working spaces so this was not a new fascination but rather a purposeful decision at the age of 30 to see the next decade of my life far more crammed with creativity than boredom! I realised that my 'inner designer' had been captive for too long and it was time to let her out.
While I appreciate that not everybody has the immediate privilege to just stop one thing to pursue a dream or develop a hidden talent I do believe that it is possible and The Interior Design Institute has played a huge role in making this dream more of a possibility for me than before. It is one thing to have skill and talent, it is quite another to understand how to use it to the full and make a living from it, but The Interior Design Institute has done an excellent job of grounding me in both the ins-and-outs of this industry as well as giving me an understanding of the principles behind my developing skills.
I have taken on little projects here and there throughout the duration of the course and have felt a growing sense of confidence and understanding of design as I have learned more and more from module to module. I have also had very happy clients and friends who have commented on my improvement from project to project.
I did my research as far as courses go and I have to say that The Interior Design Institutes professional image, its module break-down and the efficiency of the website captured my attention immediately and from enrolment to graduation I can honestly say that a high level of professionalism has remained throughout the course and has made this experience so worth my while and my money. What an exhilarating and empowering experience this has been! I was skeptical before I enrolled as to how an online course would benefit me at all. I am glad I did. The Interior Design Institute has bridged this gap for me.
I have always known that I am capable in design, but lacked the confidence. For example - I thought I knew which colours worked well together, but did not quite know why? I can now confidently say that I know HOW colour works and that there are no bad colours, only bad combinations!
At times I was pushed out of my comfort zone and had to explore areas I would not ordinarily venture into. This has built my confidence – not only in design, but as a person too.
My tutor was incredible, I have learnt so much over these 12 modules from her. She always explained in great detail what I should try in future and always encouraged me. The prompt response from my tutor was most helpful and impressive.
I was most impressed that I could work through the course at my own pace. I have a full time job and was not sure how I would get it all done. Instead I found myself rushing home from work, because I was so enthusiastic and excited about completing each assignment!

I have enjoyed the course very much, each assignment was a new challenge and opportunity for me to learn and grow. I was inspired to use the principles learned in each module within my own home. I have also assisted some family members with new design concepts for rooms within their own homes, and they were all pleased and also curious about the course.
This course provides a platform for individuals to express, learn, dream and start planning their own future in the design world. The modules are of a great standard and offer something to learn on each page.
I had a great time… and the Student Support and advice given by my tutor not only assisted me in completing well compiled assignments, but also on how to approach these situations in real life.
I would recommend this course to anyone who wants a great platform to start from and to anyone who is curious and creative about Interior Design.
