Is learning self-paced or real-time? Will online learning fit into my busy schedule?

At The Interior Design Institute, all our courses are self-paced. Once you’re enrolled, you can access the course materials and assignments at any time and progress through the program at your leisure. Depending on your course, you will be allocated between 12 and 18 months to complete your studies, allowing you to effectively balance your course work with other commitments. If you need more time, you can purchase one of our affordable extensions. We currently offer 3, 6 and 12 month extensions.

How long does it take to complete an online course or degree?

The duration of an online course at The Interior Design Institute varies based on the program and the amount of time you’re able to dedicate to studying. Typically, students are able to complete their courses within a few months. However, the self-paced nature of our online learning allows you to progress at your own speed, ensuring a flexible and personalised learning experience.

Can I interact with instructors and other students in online learning?

Absolutely! You have the opportunity to engage with instructors and fellow students through our student Facebook groups, online workshops, and our 24/7 messaging system. These interactive components empower you to interact, collaborate, exchange ideas, seek answers to your inquiries, and receive invaluable feedback. Are online degrees or certifications recognised by employers?

Yes, online certifications, such as those offered by The Interior Design Institute, are recognised by many employers in the industry. While The Interior Design Institute does not offer a degree program, our online certifications provide valuable knowledge and skills that are highly relevant to the field of interior design. Employers often value the practical expertise and dedication demonstrated by individuals who have completed reputable online certification programs.

What equipment or technology do I need for online learning?

To participate in online learning at The Interior Design Institute, you’ll need a reliable internet connection, a computer or laptop, and basic software applications such as a word processor and web browser. Depending on the course requirements, additional software or design tools may be recommended.

Do I have to have a background in interior design?

No. The courses are designed to allow for students who have had little or no experience in interior design.

What if I need more time?

If you need more time, you can purchase one of our affordable extensions. We currently offer 3, 6 and 12 month extensions. Alternatively, you can purchase an Advanced Module, which will come with a 6 month extension.

Does the course include the Advanced Modules?

No. When you purchase one of our courses, the Advanced Modules will not be included. Our Advanced Modules are short courses and are optional for those who wish to further their studies. They will be available to purchase for students who are enrolled in one of our courses and have completed the first two modules. They are comprised of one module and one assignment and you are mentored by a specialist in the topic selected.

Can I purchase the Advanced Modules as a stand-alone course?

No. Unfortunately, we do not offer our Advanced Modules to the public. Only students enrolled in one of our courses can purchase them.

What is the Darren Palmer Masterseries?

The Darren Palmer Masterseries is essentially a set of videos hosted by renowned designer and TV personality Darren Palmer, that accompany our courses. When you are studying our course materials, we recommend that you also watch the videos by Darren, to gain more knowledge. These videos can be purchased when you enrol, or at any time during the course. If you enrol, in our Diploma course, the Darren Palmer Masterseries will be included.

Do you mail any course notes or materials out?

No, all course materials are provided digitally. As soon as you join The Interior Design Institute, you will gain access to our online student site. From there, you can download the course materials as you progress through each module. The modules are provided in PDF format, allowing you to keep them for future reference and print them if desired. We are committed to providing a sustainable and environmentally friendly learning experience.

Do the courses include Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) software?

The Certificate course does not include any CAD software. We do, however, teach AutoCAD and SketchUp through our Advanced Modules. If you enrol, in our Diploma course, the SketchUp Advanced Module will be included for free and you will be required to use SketchUp for your Diploma assignments.

Are credit transfers available?

Yes. We offer a credit transfer to any applicant who provides suitable evidence that they have successfully completed a unit of competency at any Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Can I apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) after completing the Certificate course?

We have developed a bespoke RPL that is only available to students who have enrolled in our Certificate course and have completed all 12 Certificate assignments. By completing this RPL process, a student will upgrade their qualification and receive the Diploma certification.

What does the RPL course consist of?

The RPL course consists of 1 module and has been broken down into 12 project tasks that are designed to gradually build and expand on the knowledge our students have gained in the Certificate course. One of the main differences between the Certificate and the Diploma is that students are required to learn CAD software and use this to produce both 2D floor plans and 3D models.

How long do I have to complete the RPL course?

Students have 12 months to complete our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) course.
